Australia and New Zealand Assisted Reproduction Database
The Australia and New Zealand Assisted Reproduction Database (ANZARD) was implemented in 2004. It s an initiative of the Council of the Fertility Society of Australia (FSA) to provide a joint data collection for both the NPSU and the Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee (RTAC) of the FSA. The purpose of the ANZARD collection is to monitor the perinatal outcomes of assisted reproduction and to assess the effectiveness of ART treatments.
ANZARD collection is a collaborative effort between the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare's National Perinatal Statistics Unit (NPSU), the Fertility Society of Australia (FSA) and the fertility centres in Australia and New Zealand. Data of ANZARD is provided by fertility centres in Australia and New Zealand. The NPSU is the ANZARD data custodian for all fertility centres in Australia and New Zealand who provide data to the NPSU.
ANZARD includes information about the ART treatment procedures of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) using donated sperm (IUI-donor). It also includes information about ART treatment using thawed embryos; treatment involving donated gametes or embryos; the use of techniques such as assisted hatching, preimplantation genetic diagnosis and blastocyst culture. ANZARD also contains information on pregnancy and birth outcomes. This includes method of birth, birth status, birthweight, gestational age, plurality, perinatal mortality and selected information on maternal morbidity. ANZARD does not contain information about IUI if the woman’s partner’s sperm was used.
ANZARD supersedes the Assisted Conception data collection, which contains information on the outcomes of clinical pregnancies resulted from assisted conception in Australia and New Zealand from its commencement in 1979. The scope of the Assisted Conception data collection is limited to information on cycles that resulted in a clinical pregnancy.
